Q & A With A Lost Asylum

Q & A With A Lost Asylum

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

We just released our first full-length album and we will be touring in the next few months. -Gil

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

We have been together for 4 years. It initially started as a side project since most of us were already in bands. But it eventually became our main focus. -Holly

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

We started a band so we could showcase our creative side. Plus playing drums is a great way to work off stress.  -Justin

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

I have always loved music since I was a kid. I used to make my parents watch me “put on performances” for them. I started out playing the piano at age 7, then I tried my hand at the violin, then I played the trumpet for a while, then I moved onto learning the guitar as a teenager. I got into church choir at a young age and also took choir classes in school. During that time, I also took private voice lessons. Altogether, I have had about 12 years of vocal training. After all the instruments I tried my hands at, singing was the one thing that I have stuck with. It is my passion. I am so grateful to be a part of what we are creating together. -Holly

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

The image we convey is a heavy, dark emo. -Dante

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

We are excited to get our name out there so people can enjoy what we have created. We are also looking forward to going on tour this year. -James

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

I love writing because it helps me focus and releases stress. But nothing compares to getting on a stage and performing. It is a high that you can never get enough of. -Holly

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

The latest album focuses on love, loss, and abuse from my past personal experiences. However, I also love to write about serial killers. The track off of our latest album “Innocently Evil” is about Mary Bell. -Holly

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

The single most important thing to me is to being heard and being able to share my talent. -Gil

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.

The last time we went on tour, we shared a hotel room every night. One night, after partying a little too hard, Justin got up to use the bathroom. James was on a mattress on the floor, next to the bathroom, in front of a closet that had large mirrors on the door. As Justin was walking to the bathroom, James let out a blood-curdling scream, waking us all up. James saw Justin’s reflection in the mirror and in his alcohol-induced state thought he was seeing a ghost. He has never lived this down. -Holly

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

I am constantly being asked if people can touch my hair. Happens at every show. -Dante

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

Yes, they are supportive. Mostly because they would rather me spend time with the band than with them. -James

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Give it all you got. Don’t let anything or anyone deter you. When things get hard, just remember why you decided to be a musician in the first place because that is what matters. Also, be careful about people promising you the world. There are a lot of people out there who like to take advantage of musicians who are first starting out. -Holly

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Personally, “Innocently Evil” is my favorite song to play. It is different than any other song we have. It is heavy and in your face. -Gil

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

For me, Linkin Park was the band that made me want to be a musician and perform. I saw Chester at a very young age and thought I want to do that too. -Dante

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

My dream tour would consist of Wage War, Beartooth, Get Scared, Famous Last Words, and Peirce the Veil. -Holly

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

When we got to meet and share the stage with Craig Mabbitt and the Dead Rabitts. -Justin

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

If I wasn’t playing music, I would still want to be involved in music. So, I would most likely own my own recording studio. -Gil

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Line 6 Helix, Behringer XR16, Yamaha Stage Custom Drum Kit, Shure Beta 58 are a few things that we use. -James

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Our current city is great for certain genres and horrible for others. -Holly

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

All of us grew up with highly religious backgrounds. However, as we got older, we all pulled away from that and went our own way. -Justin

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Thanks so much for taking the time to get to know us a little better. Our first full-length album is on sale now on iTunes and Amazon. Make sure you check it out. Also, look out for upcoming tour dates. -Dante
