Q & A With 14 North

Q & A With 14 North

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Our debut album “What is the feeling” will be released February 21st. We’ve got a series of music videos being released along with them as well and you can expect to see us out on the road later this year- Zach

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

The project started in 2016 and we’ve basically been getting everything that’s about to happen together since then, finding the right members and finishing the album. It took a while but we are here. – Zach

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

I have always listened to the drums in music and started in middle school, band geek and all. My motivation in music, to play or listen is just to feel something. For it to move me. My passion in music feels amazing when sharing it on stage with others. – Josh

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

I grew up listening to classic rock. My dad always had either a Tom Petty, AC/DC, Aerosmith or Van Halen cd playing in the car. It’s gone a few different directions over the years and still does but I always go back to listening to grunge.- Zach

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

I think “What is the Feeling” asks if you think you’re alone.  You’re not. You can break away from your past. – Josh

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

Just to be able to fully support myself off music alone. That would be “making it” in my eyes. – Zach

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

I love both so much but what really does it for me is performing in front of a crowd of people. I don’t come back down from that “high” for days. – Zach

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Our songs have a very strong message in them. Like most people we’ve struggled with different demons in the past. You can feel the pain we’ve experienced in a lot of songs. The overall theme of the lyrics is to encourage people to talk about what they’re struggling with and fight those demons and once you’ve recovered you help others do the same. – Zach

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

That the music I put out, I let it rip me open and really try to connect with

people. – Josh

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.

There was a venue once we were playing at and Zach walked out and climbs up on the bar to play solo. Epic! – Josh

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

We can’t really think of any strange requests we’ve gotten.

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

My family is my biggest fans. Some more so than others but they are all just happy that I’m doing something that I love. – Zach

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Take your time and invest in yourself. You don’t get a second chance at a first opinion. -Zach

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

When we slam into “Trench” it’s on for me. – Zach

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Sevendust is probably my biggest band that motivated me to want to do music. I just love the way their songs build heavy tension in the verses and the chorus release is always big and usually half time and heavy.

It flows and moves you. – Josh

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Seether, Chevelle, Thrice and Staind. – Zach

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Getting our music out there on the radio has been crazy for me. It still doesn’t feel real. Never thought there would be a chance for someone to turn on their radio and hear us. – Zach

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

I would probably be doing XRAY, CT and MRI’s as a traveling technologist. – Josh

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Gibson Les Paul and Marshall amp. Nothing sounds better to me. – Zach

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

The scene is growing again. People are wanting to hear music that’s heavy and moves you. I think that the grunge spirit is still there. – Josh

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

When I say I’ve been sober for 4 years that usually surprises people. – Zach

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

We thank you all so much for your continued support. 2020 is going to be a killer year for us. – Zach

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!
