Review:
Michael Monroe has released no less than ten solo albums of material between 1987 and 2015. While, he will probably always be most famous for fronting the infamous band Hanoi Rocks in the early 80’s, his solo albums deserve a release like this one, which is entitled simply….The Best. Just for a quick history lesson, Hanoi Rocks were one, if not the band that many people credit with driving the Los Angeles glam movement. Also, called hair metal, the genre that spawned bands like Poison, Warrant, Europe, Cinderella, Stryper, etc. most likely wouldn’t have formed without the influence of Hanoi Rocks and New York Dolls. After Hanoi Rocks ended. Michael Monroe ventured out to start his own career as a solo artist. This remastered collection of the best tracks from those albums also includes some great gems with the likes of tracks like “It’s A Lie” with the late Stiv Bators (Dead Boys, Lords Of The New Church) and the previously unreleased “Magic Carpet Ride” with none other than Guns N’ Roses’ Slash appearing. Monroe is a bit of a mythical figure in rock history, much like Iggy Pop. You either love him or hate him. I happen to think most of these songs are really great material and I especially have always had a fondness for the song “Dead, Jail Or Rock N’ Roll”. This is an outstanding collection of songs that deserve to be heard. This is a must have for anyone who didn’t pick these albums up when they first came out. It’s also a great piece of Rock N’ Roll history. If you already own those albums, check out the unreleased tracks like “Fist Fulla Dynamite” and “Simpletown,”, plus there’s the new single “One Foot Outta The Grave”.
