Review:
I first took notice of The Lords Of Altamont with their 2002 release “To Hell With The Lords Of Altamont”. I stumbled on them quite by accident and thought the name was cool. I remember wondering how many 20-somethings of the current generation knew about The Rolling Stones fiasco at Altamont and the biker culture of that time. Well now, The Lords are back with a new album “The Wild Sounds Of Altamont” and it’s exactly everything that I hoped it would be. A psychedelic, blues and fuzz rock soaked musical equivalent of a 1970’s biker “B” movie. These guys never cease to amaze, as they bring out a rough and tumble, raw sound. At times reminiscent of Iggy & The Stooges, but always sounding like an active time warp is in place. Their cover of the blues classic “Evil” is top notch. The whole album is fantastic. I especially like “Death On The Highway”, “I Said Hey” “Can’t Sleep” and “Take A Walk (On A Short Pier). It’s a great mix of sweaty blues based rock with a slight punk/garage edge to it. Pick this one up for a great addition to your rock collection. It’s sure to liven things up, if it doesn’t melt your other records. I would highly recommend this to fans of the Detroit rock scene of the 70’s and of course fans of “The Stooges”.
