Review:
When I heard the news that Leaves Eyes were coming to a venue near me, I was already ready for a road trip. This would be my first time witnessing the band perform live, after being a fan for quite some time. When I arrived at the Orpheum, the line to get in was about a city block long and seemed to just keep growing. Eventually, the announcement was made that the venue had reached capacity and was sold out. I watched many fans leave disappointed that there was no possibility of watching the show. Now, of course this is not the fault of the Orpheum. Local fire marshals have ordinances in place to limit the occupancy of buildings in case of a fire or other emergencies. I was completely bummed out. I had just driven for about an hour and a half listening to Leaves Eyes all the way there. I was ready to turn around and head back home when lo and behold, I ran into Dustin Hardman from AFM Records. He was there promoting them and as luck would have it, after explaining my desperate situation, Dustin explained that he had originally added an extra person to his guest list, but they were unable to attend the show….so thanks to Dustin….I was in! So I guess it was fate that I was going to see the band this night. The band took the stage to a packed house with horns raised high. If you’re  a fan of the band, you absolutely, must go see them live. They performed with a fire and energy that’s a completely different experience than listening to the recorded albums. Performing mostly tracks from their latest release “Fires In The North”, the band immediately had the whole audience under their spell. They literally had the crowd eating out of their hand as they performed songs like Edge Of Steel, Sacred Vow, Fires In The North and more. New vocalist Elina Siirala did a fantastic job of performing these songs live. She replaced long time vocalist Liv Kristine around a year ago. Her vocal ability was simply amazing as she continued to excite the crowd with each new song. Alex Krull, the other vocalist put on a real show, wearing an armored suit complete with a sword. He thrusted the sword into the air and had the entire crowd chanting along with the band throughout the show. Leaves Eyes is an interesting band because of the mix of beautiful female vocals and the guttural heaviness of the male vocals. It plays out great live, almost as a metal version of Beauty and The Beast. The band is currently on tour in North America with Battle Beast and Sabaton. If you have an opportunity to go see them live, go do it! You won’t be disappointed. Just make sure that you get your tickets early, because people are lining up to see these great bands.

Band Members:
