XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Invidiosus: Matt: We are releasing a split in October 2017 with RETORTION TERROR. Takafumi and I have talked for months and decided to do this split together. This will be our debut release via Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. In October-November 2017 we will be touring Japan and South Korea.
XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Invidiosus: 10 years.
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Invidiosus: Heavy metal, beer, being nerds when we were kids.
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Invidiosus: A little of everything. Gridlink, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Suffocation, Wu Tang Clan, Kreator.
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Invidiosus: Having a panic attack, reaching for your anxiety medication and accidentally popping LSD instead.
XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals?
Invidiosus: Survive touring Japan and S. Korea. Write an insane new full-length record in 2018, hopefully visit some more great countries. Hopefully have another wall of death or two.
XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
Invidiosus: Tour every country on earth, start at least one riot, try to play in Antarctica like Metallica but without the dome that prevented them from freezing.
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Invidiosus: Write songs for us, play them for other people.
XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Invidiosus: Anxiety, depression, pinche gringos, dumb shit people do (ourselves included).
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
Invidiosus: Oh fuck. Playing a slimy brothel in Cancun, Mexico. Riding on a bus through the mountains in Bolivia and nearly freezing to death overnight. Missing a ferry in Cozumel, Mexico and sleeping on the street with all our gear. Our first wall of death in La Paz, Bolivia. (Matt:) Tripping on mushrooms and trying to launch a boat that Kevin and Ray were in, flipping the boat over and sending all of 3 of us into the water, then thinking I was covered in leeches and running naked around a crowded campground.
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Invidiosus: We really don’t want to incriminate anyone.
XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Invidiosus: Not at first, but they got used to it.
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Invidiosus: New songs.
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Invidiosus: Lemmy, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Marduk, Suffocation, etc.
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Invidiosus: Cephalic Carnage, Ihsahn, King Crimson, Cattle Decapitation. Frank Zappa with Corpsegrider on vocals. Tiny Tim
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Invidiosus: Every tour we don’t end up dead or in jail. USA, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, and Colombia are all very great countries. Best people, best bands, best times.
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Invidiosus: On average we work 40+ hour work weeks to support our death-grind addiction. Kevin, Colin, and Matt are stagehands, Ray works in a restaurant as a cook, Todd is a photographer.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Invidiosus: Kevin: Marshall JCM800 1981, sponsored by LACE PICKUPS, Ray: Peavy 5150, Todd: JK Neo 410, dark glass B7K, Ibanez BTB 676, Crawlin: 1973 Rogers drums in sweet baby blue, assorted cymbals and shit.
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Invidiosus: Mainstream music has fucked a lot of things up, especially here in the U.S.. Still, there are many good bands in the underground.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Invidiosus: Some of us like to drink beer on occasion.
XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Invidiosus: Getting a concussion when you’re blackout drunk.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Invidiosus: Thanks to everyone who has supported us throughout the years.
