Interview with Straight Line Stitch’s Alexis Brown

XSRock: Tell me about the latest Straight Line Stitch news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Alexis: Currently we are about to wrap up a short run that has ran through the Midwest. We did a festival in Texas & now we are about to embark on a few shows opening up for Soil & then it’s home for the holidays.

XSRock: How long has the band been together?
Alexis: Straight Line Stitch was stared back in ’99. Jason & I joined in early to mid 2000. We’ve been in this band for quite some time.

XSRock: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Alexis: Ever since I was a little girl all I ever did was sing & dream about being a singer. I started off singing R&B then as I got into my teens my musical influences started to develop more & I started listening to bands like Korn & from that point on I wanted to join a band.

XSRock: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Alexis: I think I like them both about the same honestly.

XSRock: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
Alexis: Nothing outrageous as of lately has happened to us (which I’m thankful for) sorry nothing to report on that end.

XSRock: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Alexis: The strangest request that a fan has asked of me was to was call his wife & apologize for him because he had did something to upset her & knowing that his wife was a fan of ours he thought if I talked to her it would help & surprisingly it did.

XSRock: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Alexis: I’ve been blessed that my whole family has been 100% supportive since day one.

XSRock: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Alexis: I love playing “Laughing in the Rearview” off The Fight of Our Lives album & now I quite enjoy playing “Human Bondage” off of our new EP Transparency.

XSRock: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Alexis: I believe indefinitely that I was truly inspired to sing by God but as far as artist & bands go..Korn was a huge influence on me & really motivated me to go out & seek a band. Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac was also a major influence on me because of her voice & they’ve just always had great songwriting skills.

XSRock: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Alexis: There are so many great bands out there, it’s hard for me to choose…off the top of my head Deftones, Katatonia, Karnivool, NIN, In Flames, Suicide Silence, Machine Head, UnEarth, Metallica, Tool,…..I guest that would be more like a festival lol.

XSRock: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Alexis: Re-dedicating my life to Christ is my biggest & greatest accomplishment because  now my priorities have changed & I’m in a much better & happier place.

XSRock: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Alexis: I’d probably have a regular 9-5 job. I think I would probably go back to school.

XSRock: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Alexis: I use a Shure SM 58 microphone though I did use a Blue Encore 100 the other night & it wasn’t too bad.

XSRock: What do you think of the current music scene?
Alexis: What music scene? Lol I wasn’t aware we really had one…(I’m just kidding) I think that the scene has lost a lot of its camaraderie & every man/woman is for themselves. No one really lends a hand to the lesser man…it’s all just a big clique.

XSRock: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Alexis: If someone didn’t know me they would be surprised to know that I struggle with self esteem & confidence issues.

XSRock: If someone had never heard Straight Line Stitch before, how would you describe your sound?
Alexis: I wouldn’t even try to describe our sound because I don’t know how & telling people you sound like this band or that band defeats the purpose of originality. I guess I would tell them that they would have to check it out.

XSRock: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Alexis: I’d just like to thank you for this opportunity!! Also that we love & thank our fans!!! We’ll see ya out on the road xo

XSRock: Thanks again Alexis, for taking the time to talk with XS Rock!
