Interview With Steve Burner From Travelin’ Jack

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Steve: we just released our second record, Commencing Countdown and now we going to play a bunch of shows in September and October to promote the album. And we really looking forward to hit the road with Kadavar in December.

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Steve: we’ve been together for 4 yours now. Back in 2013 Alia and Flo wrote the first songs  and were looking for a bass player and drummer to complete the band.shortly after  Monty an I joined the band.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Steve: To rock!;)

XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Steve: we all started in punk bands and know each other from local concert but never played together in a band before.
I think you can still feel that those early influences and the attitude in TJ.

XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals?
Steve: Its a real tough time for rock n roll espacilly if you talk about a career. The most important for us is to play rock n roll and having a good time and that as long as possible! I think thats a good long-term career goal;)

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Steve: In my case its definitly playing live! I love to perform and interact with the audience!

XS ROCK: What are some of your songs about?
Steve: Commencing Countdown handles a lot with change and departure. We waiting for countdown to come to zero, but we don’t know were this journey will go.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
Steve: of course!we are a rock n roll band, what a pity if there were’nt any stories;) but right now we better keep it a secret. If you got the chance to see us live, you will m get a lot material for outrageous stories;)

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Steve: there wasnt something really strange yet. But lots of people ask for travelin jack tattoos. Right now there must be around 15-20 people with nice TJ artwork under their skin.

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Steve: yes! In my case they were super supportive! My dad bought me my first guitar and helped to build our first rehearsal room when I started playing in bands.  Till today they like to come to our shows too.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Steve: Its hard to name one in particular. Especially right now when we start to play the new songs its lots of fun. To be honest, I love to play all the songs!

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Steve: There are many influences from punk to soul. For TJ bands like Thin Lizzy, Scorpions or Deep Purple have been a big inspiration. Musical and theatrical David Bowie is also very important.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Steve: are we talking about active bands? What about a festival? Scorpions, Alice Cooper, the darkness and of course TJ headlining;)

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Steve: hard to say…we really proud of our new record!

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Steve: Alia and Flo are both talented tattoo artists. I m really into sewing and graphic design. By the way all our artwork, merch and stage clothes is done by ourselves. That’s the thing when so many creative minds play in one band ,who exactly know what they want. Its hard to give things out of your hands. DIY!

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Steve: we use the same equipment for studio recordings and live shows. Flo and Alia both use vintage marshall amps and gibson guitars(flyin’ v’s amd les pauls). Monty plays ludwig drums and I m in love with fender precission basses.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Steve: there are so many great bands out there today like Heat, Dead Lord or Church Of Mental Enlightment. In Berlin you got so many chances to see good live shows. That’s amazing!

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Steve: that we are a band of the present 😉

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Steve: classic hard rock with attitude and a lot of soul.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Steve: Forget about this crazy world for a while and don’t let your life be dictated by fear! You’ve got the power!

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS Rock!
Steve: Dank dir! (Thanks a lot)
