Today, I had the chance to talk with all of the members of the band ScreamKing. The band is comprised of Joe Lawson- lead vocals, Rafael Hernandez-guitars,vocals, John Seyring-bass, vocals and Tom Cox-drums. They have a recently released full on metal album entitled “Tyranny Of The Sea”. Check out my interview with the guys below:
XS Rock: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Joe: We are currently on tour in support of the Tyranny of the Sea record across the midwest.
XS Rock: How long has the band been together?
Rafael: Since 2013.
XS Rock: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Tom: Drummers like Tommy Lee, bands like Motley Crue, Megadeth, Metallica, at a young age.
XS Rock: What is your music background?
Bob: I started out playing thrash metal guitar at the age of 11 and currently I enjoy fusion and instrumental music as well.
XS Rock: What image do you think your music conveys?
Rafael: It conveys a diverse image of multiple styles of music.
XS Rock: What are your immediate music career goals?
Joe: To play in support of the new record through the end of the year and then start writing and pre production on a another new record in 2018.
XS Rock: What are your long-term career goals?
Joe: To continue building a stronger fanbase worldwide and play over seas for our fans across the world.
XS Rock: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Rafael: We enjoy doing both, they both have their place and rewarding in different ways.
XS Rock: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Joe: A wide variety of themes ranging from Historical events to fictional stories to personal events.
XS Rock: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
John: Our most recent touring story would include our breaks going out hauling our trailer
no vacancy in any hotels in Milwaukee besides a run down Econolodge a late load out and early checkout onto the next show in the Chicago area.
XS Rock: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Rafael: Considering were an original band we don’t generally get asked anything to strange thankfully.
XS Rock: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Tom: 110% yes
XS Rock: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Bob: Cannibals of Sacrifice, Warhorse and Black Jackal.
XS Rock: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Joe: Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, King Diamond and Bruce Dickinson because they inspired me and pushed me to become the best that I could be.
XS Rock: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
ScreamKing: Testament, Megadeth, Death Angel, Sepultura, Judas Priest.
XS Rock: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Joe: Persevering through multiple lineup changes, releasing 2 albums and refusing to give up and opening for some big well respected national acts.
XS Rock: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Joe: It wouldn’t matter because without music in my life I would not be happy.
XS Rock: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
ScreamKing: Dbz guitars, Granger custom amps, Line 6 amps, Bugera amps and Pdp drums Shure microphones.
XS Rock: What do you think of the current music scene?
Joe: It varies from state to state and presents many different challenges today.
XS Rock: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
John: That I served in the Army and Air Force both.
XS Rock: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Joe: No Genres no boundaries just good Metal!
XS Rock: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
