XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Jason: The EP release is happening at Union Pool, October 10/15, punch and pie; We have been rehearsing and revamping older material as well,
XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Russ: 7 years in total, this line up has been playing for about 3 years now. We’re a happy band.
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Jesse: Cause rock and roll is the best. Why else would you do it. We don’t care about about money unless you have some to give us, so like I said, the monies please. But really, this is our passion.
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Jason: My father is a drummer, my grandmother was a drummer, 100% of my family drum.
Jesse: My father is an accomplished jazz musician. Look him up, Steve Adelson. He’s incredible.
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Russ: Spectres of gauze and also you know, calm toilet times.
Jesse: You know that scene in Royal Tenembaums when Luke Wilsons character slits his wrists? That.
Jason: I think the album cover says it all.
XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals?
Jason: We’d love to tour as much as possible. I just wanna play music, fuck a day job.
Russ: I just wanna play guitar.
XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
Jason: That’s kind of the same question as the last, no? We want to live long healthy musical lives. That’s the dream.
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Jason: Quality question. Preforming live is my favorite thing to do. Recording is also great, but the high you get from playing live is unbeatable.
Russ: Writing new material.
Jesse: Tough for me to choose. They are both so great. That’s like asking me what I would love more my wife or my kids. I probably won’t have kids tho. I’ve been teaching for way too long. It’s like birth control. This question has sparked some controversy between us.
XS ROCK: What are your songs about?
Jason: We mostly talk about the idea of deep space and human emotion or the lack there of. Space is cool as shit and since we know little to nothing about it, our imagination can take us anywhere.
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
Jason: Our van broke down in Carlisle, Pennslyvania and we stayed at a crappy motel. When we woke up in the morning to leave, there was, what seemed like a 12 year old smoking cigarettes with no pants on. Glad we got the hell out of there without getting an STD. That being said Russ has multiple STD’s so watch out ladies. He is a good kisser tho, I know from experience.
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Russ: To get in the band van and do a bunch of blow with her.
Jason: In Burger King I met a girl, I got a free Whopper. I love Whoppers.
Jesse: Still waiting on mine…sigh
XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Jason: All of our parents support us handsomely or are dead to us. Or actually dead.
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Jason (heavy breathing ensues) Listless from our last record.
Russ: I like them all
Jesse: We also do a lot of cover songs just to keep it fun and break up playing the same songs over and over again. Those always go over well live. If I had to choose one of our originals, I’d say Elevated Droves.
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Russ: David Lee Roth. Have you seen and heard him?!
Jesse: Queen is the greatest band ever. I’d kill to see them live.
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Jason: I like this question. I’d love to play with (more heavy breathing) Genesis, Litergy, Origin, and Deafheaven.
Jesse: My Bloody Valentine and Pg. 99
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Jason: Finishing this interview. Also playing at House of Vans in Greenpoint in front of hundreds of people freaking out over our cover of We Are The Champions.
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Jason: We all have day jobs. Russ is a chef. Jesse is a teacher. Jason wants to kill everyone at work, but designs amazing graphics and such. We all wish we were professional wrestlers.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Jason: The same we use in practice. So much delay. We are so down for sponsors. Jason wants Zildjian, Pork Pie. Russ wants Kramer and Seymore Duncan. Jesse has the best gear and doesn’t care cause he’s not petty like those other guys. Just kidding I need a tech.
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Jason: It’s a bit saturated, but we wish everyone the best. We just want people to be creative and explore the boundaries of sound.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Jason: Fuck. At night I run around town, dressed as a 1920’s chimney sweeper.
Russ: My pants are a little tight right now, so it’s a bit hard to answer this. I’m anti pleats and I’m also against actors running for office.
Jesse: There was a period there I thought I might want to be a girl. I still want that. Call me Jessica damn it.
XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Jason: Global thermal semi technical thrashy blackened glam.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Jason: Yeah. Eat more pineapple. Record comes out 10/10. Hope you listen to it all the way thru. Enjoy.
