Interview With Screaming For Silence’s Vocalist Zeb Christensen

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Zeb: We just released our first single off of our upcoming release. “House of Glass” which is also the name of the EP that comes out July 28th. We also start tour the same day to go out and support the EP!

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Zeb: We have been playing together for 10+ years and touring nationally for about 5 years.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Zeb: I just remember my brother Zane taking me to shows when I was younger and thinking that would be so rad to get on a stage and do that.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Zeb: That’s a tough one!! Both of those things are about equally awesome haha. In the end I would say playing shows. There’s just something about the feeling I get when we step on stage.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
Zeb: We have SO many outrageous stories from the road. One of my favorites is we got asked to play a festival with Godsmack, Killswitch Engage and more and at that time the van was out of commission so 5 of us piled into a Dodge Caliber ( they are not very spacious) and drove over 10 hours. We were so packed in there that when we got out CD’s were falling out of the car and we could barely move. ALL WORTH IT!

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Zeb: I think signing a prosthetic leg was right up there. It’s also weird when a married men asks us to sign their wife’s chest. That has happened.

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Zeb: Actually all of our parents are extremely supportive. I think at first it took some time especially when we all quit our jobs but to this day they have always had our back!!

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Zeb: My favorite right now is “House of Glass” or any of the new stuff. Some older ones are Varsity Blues or Separate.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Zeb: Slipknot and Papa Roach were two of mine. I just loved the energy and the show that they put on. Its even better that years later they are still ripping stages up!

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Zeb: Slipknot, Papa Roach and Metallica would be just fine 🙂

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Zeb: I would say getting to tour coast to coast with my brothers and see the country is so gratifying. Also when “King is Crowned” first hit radio stations across the country that was pretty sweet to. We could be playing shows anywhere and people were singing along.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Zeb: Well I have a degree to teach K-12 Physical Education which is kind of opposite of being in a band but I wouldn’t mind doing that at some point again!

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Zeb: Right now I have a wireless Shure SM 58. The guys proudly use PRS Guitars and Ernie Ball Strings. Matt is currently playing on a DW drum set.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Zeb: I brag across the nation how good Omaha, NE is for music. People think because we aren’t on a coast that we are behind in the times. That is so false. Our scene is thriving and so much awesome music is coming out from here.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Zeb: Probably back to being a PE teacher. People don’t really expect that but we are all actually really into sports!

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Zeb: I would say right down the middle between Metal and rock. I think that we have a song for everyone that is into any of that kind of music.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Zeb: To all of our fans THANK YOU for all of the support!! We couldn’t do this without you. If you are new to our music crank it up and come catch a live show somewhere!!
