Interview With Holly Wedel and Jeff Alexis From Bloodstrike

Interview With Holly Wedel and Jeff Alexis From Bloodstrike

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Holly & Jeff:  We have a lot going on that we’re excited about. At the moment we’re getting ready to release our second Album called Execution Of Violence, which will be released on Oct 13th.  We’re also getting ready to go on tour through Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. The tour kicks off on the CD release date.

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Holly & Jeff:  We’ve been a band since the winter of 2013. The core four of us (Holly, Jeff, Joe and Ryan) have been the same pretty much from the inception.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Holly & Jeff:  Holly and I had talked about forming a band years ago but it never worked out. But in 2013 we had the chance so we went for it. We had the same interest in playing Swedish old school death metal so it came together quick.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Holly – started out playing cello in middle school. I’ve loved music ever since and then evolved into a metal head.
Jeff – I got my first guitar when I was 15 years old and have played metal ever since. I also record and produce music.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Holly & Jeff:  Well our music is pretty much about our hatred for horrible people and all the crappy things people do, how we can be easily influenced for the love money, power, and war, Both sonicly and lyrically. We love to get our point across as much as we can. Our music to us is what we feel and need for the world to hear.

Interview With Holly Wedel and Jeff Alexis From BloodstrikeXS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals?
Holly & Jeff:  After our album Execution Of Violence is released we will immediately go on tour. After we get back we will start writing our third album, in which case we are throwing around ideas, and we plan to tour Europe sometime next year if we can pull it off.

XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
Holly & Jeff:  Our long term goals are to tour the US and other countries, and see if we can sustain ourselves for years to come. We want our music distributed all over the world. We just want to be able to do what we enjoy most, playing old school death metal.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Holly & Jeff:   Both. I mean when you get tired of being in the studio all day you’re ready for the road, and when you get sick ( aka run out of money) of being on the road it’s nice to come back to the studio. But seriously there isn’t much better than playing in front of some rabid fans.

XS ROCK: What are some of your song topics about?
Holly & Jeff:  Our songs are about pretty much anything that is disturbing and macabre, one song I wrote  about a killer her name is Katherine Knight who killed her lover and ate him the police describe the crime scene as one of the worst they have ever seen. Other songs are about war and the hate other people give to other people, government mind control and the need to procreate for genocide.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
Holly & Jeff:  Yea we do, we were playing a show in Akron Ohio and some crazy guy decided to bear hug me while I was singing I pushed him away and then a few minutes later he came back to totally punched me in my face while I was in the middle of singing a song, it was nuts. And also seeing Amish people was a strange thing for me, I  only seen them on tv, I was gonna go up to them with my satanic rites skirt on and buy some bakery goods but I chickened out, they sure did give us some strange looks.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Interview With Holly Wedel and Jeff Alexis From BloodstrikeHolly & Jeff:  Nothing really our fans always ask for the norm, someone did one time ask me to sign his ass cheek it was kind of gross but I signed it, I wondered if he ever washed his ass I had to throw out the marker. I now remember some dude in Iowa kept asking us if we had any meth and was asking for some crazy shit honestly I couldn’t understand him half the time because he talked so fast it was brutality insane.

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Holly & Jeff:  Yes my mom is way more supportive then my father, he is a bible thump-er and believes all people who are different are evil, I always have be myself and even more fucked up when hes around which is hardly ever. My mom though is amazing and always supported me. I know that the other guys parents highly support them and the band, every now and then they come out to a show. Our old bass players mom cooked us dinner and let us do laundry at her house when we were on tour and she came out to the show. It always awesome to see our parents come to our shows.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Holly & Jeff:  Id have to say In Death We Rot, it always gets the crowd going, next would be Putrefied Rapist, because it just a killer song all around and I like to say “have you ever wondered what it like to fuck a dead body” before the song. Maggots For A Whore is another fun one to get the crowd going I always like to say “this song is about a special lady” but over all I like to play all of our songs and we are looking forward to playing the new ones out for the first time its gonna be awesome and I cant wait.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Holly & Jeff:  There are so many bands that inspire us, but I would have to say Entombed, Grave, Unleashed, Dismember and Bolt Thrower are the top 5 that influence me. And the reason why is because they have the most intense lyrics, and music that  hits my soul in places that some bands just cant touch, and I would totally go fucking nuts if I  had a chance to see Dismember or the original line up of Entombed. These bands just have so much of who I am that I love and when I hear their music its almost soothing and release of mental emotions of how much I hate stupid people and the stupid things they do.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Holly & Jeff:  I have thought about this a lot and again it would have to be my top 5 bands, Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed, Grave, Bolt Thrower And Bloodstrike.  I would call the tour Unholy Death Tour, it would be the most amazing tour. I wish I had enough money to actually pay them to come out here and tour with us.

Interview With Holly Wedel and Jeff Alexis From BloodstrikeXS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Holly & Jeff:  Recording our second album, going on tour and getting interviewed by Decibel plus making new friends and fans everywhere in the world is probably the biggest one to me. I like that feeling of having friends and fans that support what we do and help us get around. We are still working on getting over the pond to play a few shows, hopefully that will happen sometime next year.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Holly & Jeff:  I would probably be some crazy psycho woman running around with 30 dogs and a cat bothering people for food, or maybe I would become some crazy person who would never leave my house unless I had to go get food for my pets which would include a pig and goat and maybe some chickens. Or maybe I would actually like being a welder and have my own shop and actually make good money. I honestly don’t know heheheh my mind is crazy sometimes.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Holly & Jeff:  I use a Sure beta 58 with a straight stand, Jeff plays through a Marshall, and Joe plays through Mesa. They have full stacks and cross their amps. It sounds brutal. And Ryan’s drums are orange.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Holly & Jeff:  It’s healthy for sure. There is no shortage of ‘metal events’ happening around town. It really is a great metal city.

Interview With Holly Wedel and Jeff Alexis From BloodstrikeXS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Holly & Jeff:  That I like dogs, kitties and fluffy things. That I’m also a welder. Oh yeah and I took a dump on the stairs of my old middle school because I hated it so much. And I have two kids (19 and 22).

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Holly & Jeff:  Well let’s put it this way, we’re heavily influenced by old school Swedish death metal. We have that chainsaw guitar tone and the guttural vocals. Fast double bass and pounding snare.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Holly & Jeff:  That we’re going on tour starting Oct 13th. We have some friends (Forceps) coming in from Brazil and we’re going to jump on their tour for a bit. Also, our new album Execution of Violence will be released on Oct 13 along with the tour. Check us out at http://www.bloodstrikemetal.com/
