XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows orannouncements?
Jared: We just released our first 3 song EP entitled, “Revelations.” We are currently working on material for a full length album and have a show scheduled for August 5th at the Boardwalk in Orangevale, Ca.
XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Jared: 4 years approximately
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Jared: For this project, I was motivated by the birth of my daughter, Morgan who was diagnosed with cancer. She was the inspiration behind the concepts and lyrics. She is currently healthy and doing just fine.
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Jared: I have a death metal background and am the former guitar player for Impaled, Deeds of Flesh and Severed Savior.
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Jared: I think we have a predominant Viking image with more of a gothic/symphonic influence than anything.
XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)
Jared: We plan to lock in some solid distribution and have been speaking labels about it. We want to continue to play some local shows but plan to tour in the near future. And of course we want to continue writing music!
XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
Jared: We would all like to consistently put out music for our fans and be able to tour and bring the live energy to them and meet them in person.
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Jared: I don’t have a preference. Each one is fun and challenging in their own ways. I enjoy the process of writing music but also like the energy and interaction of live shows.
XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Jared: We are creating a theme with our concept and it starts with the birth of Morgan. She was born with cancer and loses her innocence because of it. She then fights back against the disease and begins to grow and transition into a shield maiden who eventually conquers the disease, leads her people and country and becomes a respected Valkyrie in Valhalla. We hope to cover this subject over the newly released EP and next two albums.
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
Jared: We have yet to tour with this project so stay tuned for that one!! I am sure with having two female band members and all our different personalities, we will have plenty!
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Jared: I had a fan ask to get the Severed Savior logo tattooed on his head which he ended up actually doing.
XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Jared: Yes, completely.
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Jared: Revelations, Victory or Valhalla and First Valkyrie!
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Jared: This project was inspired by other Symphonic metal acts such as Nightwish, Epica, The Gathering and Within Temptation.
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Jared: Kamelot, Nightwish, Epica, Dawn of Morgana would be amazing!
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Jared: Releasing our EP was a big one for me. It is a huge milestone accomplishment for me to be able to share it with the world
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Jared: Well, I currently have a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice Management and was a Law Enforcement Officer for 11 years. I would for sure go back to that if the band wasn’t my current priority.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Jared: Both Karl and I use the Eleven Rack preamp modeler and I use a Matrix power amp. I use Vader cabinets and Karl uses Hughes and Kettner. We all use NADY wireless systems for wireless applications. Sarah uses a Roland keyboard.
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Jared: It’s okay in our area. We are from the Sacramento Bay Area so we have a decent scene out here. Everyone in general seems to be supportive but its definitely not what it used to be.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Jared: Probably that I was a Cop for 11 years.
XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Jared: Symphonic Viking metal. Similar to Nightwish, Epica and Leaves Eyes with some death metal influences.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Jared: Yes! Go check us out on the interwebs!! We are all over social media and have our songs available on our website, Facebook, Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, I heart radio etc!! And most of all, thank you for the support!!! We couldn’t do this without our fans!!
XS ROCK: Thanks again Jared, for taking the time to talk with us at XS Rock!
