Fronted by singer Nathan James, Inglorious are UK based hard rockers, formed in 2014. A classic sounding band, inspired by the likes of Deep Purple, Inglorious II is the follow up to their self titled debut. Picking up where the last record left off, it is an album full of chunky riffs, great playing and topped off with some incredible vocals from James.
The 12 track album was mixed by legendary producer Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin) and coincides with the band welcoming back original guitarist Drew Lowe.
Lead track I Don’t Need Your Loving is a fine start reminiscent of Rainbow, and indeed Dio, the huge vocals perhaps slightly more controlled than at times on the first record. Tell Me Why has a great Whitesnake style vibe – low key intro explodes into a massive riff and chorus. High Class Woman is a highlight (a shame it is buried at the end of the album though) which includes some nice harmonies and a change of pace which works very well. Also a long way down the running order is Faraway, which really showcases what a great voice Nathan James has. I wonder if more backing vocals throughout the record might have added a little colour and contrast, but even alone, it is a mighty fine vocal performance throughout.
This is a strong release that’s very much in keeping with the band’s debut. Keeping that in mind, I think fans of the band will love this record, but if you are on the fence about Inglorious, that may be where you’ll remain for now. Overall, an impressive album which follows in the footsteps of classic 70’s hard rock.
