Review:
Starting with the opening track “Fixir”, you immediately get the impression that is a new-sounding Hydrogyn. With a more aggressive tone throughout, Hydrogyn are back with a new album called “Redemption”. Let me start out by saying that I’ve enjoyed all of the previous albums that Hydrogyn have released. I was curious when I heard that longtime vocalist Julie had left the band and that they were evolving their sound with new vocalist Erica Parrott. Well, my first impression is simply Wow! I have to say that I really like this heavier sound that they’re bringing and new vocalist Erica is perfect for this style of metal. This album is a real face melter. With pounding drums and in your face bass for the rhythmic backbone, Redemption is explosive. Of course the blazing guitar sounds that we’ve come to know are still here, but now sound even more fiery. The musicianship is excellent and the band sounds really tight. The whole album is an all-out brutal assault that should please any metal fan. Standout tracks for me are “Fixir”“My Redemption”, “Devil God Devil”, “Break In Two” and “In The End”. But the whole album is a really nice piece of work by this newly revitalized line up. Metal fans get up, go out and buy this! Your support for bands like Hydrogyn help guarantee that metal music will stay alive and relevant for years to come.
